Metropolis creates custom furniture on commission ranging from modernist steel and stainless to mixed material wood and metal designs. We design and build in stainless steel, carbon fiber, exotic wood and steel, zinc, copper and aluminum. Choose from our existing unique pieces or have us create the perfect one specifically for you to your specifications.

Combining the deep, warm, intricate natural colors of Teak wood with the modern smooth simplicity of Stainless Steel creates a pleasing, complimentary design in a nearly endless number of settings. The stainless steel is burnished to a smooth finish and the teak boards shaped to match the radius on the stainless tubing. Smooth and oiled, the teak provides a resilient outdoor finish with somewhat of a nautical quality. The teak can be maintained to a deep warm luster with occasional applications of teak oil or can be allowed to weather to a soft, natural, silver-gray color. More permanent finishes are available at customer request. The flexibility of this design allows for extensive variation on length, width, height and individual board width to suit nearly any particular location. Each table is custom fabricated to the client’s specifications and several standard sizes are also available. If desired, a stainless steel central bushing to allow for an umbrella can be incorporated. The all weather resistant materials used throughout make this an ideal table for outdoor settings although it is equally at home indoors.

This version above seats eight comfortably in the armchairs and measures 40” in width, 93” long and 29.5” high. This table features SS tubing of 1.5” X 2.5” and teak boards measuring 4” wide with adjustable, non-marking feet.

Metropolis has or can build versions in appropriate sizes to seat from one to any number. We also have side tables, end tables, coffee tables, occasional tables and benches. Round, elliptic and custom shapes are also built to client specifications.

This dining room table is made with curly (or tiger) maple boards surrounded by a two inch by six inch solid border of cherry. The table top is designed over a steel armature to mount the hard maple legs. The leg spacing is adjustable and the table is designed to seat eight to twelve . The table measures 43 inches by 93 inches and was detailed with a variety of finishes to the client's specifications.

Metropolis created 40 work desks for a software developer in California using the client’s inspirational photo of a flea market find. Developing the idea led to the double thickness Baltic plywood top showing 22 very thin layers along the edges. The legs are galvanized iron pipe and the locking casters are scaffold style frames with custom selected wheels of galvanized iron with red polyurethane tread. The standout feature of each desk, the caster wheels measure nine inches in diameter and each one weighs 14 pounds. The desk tops were stain and polyurethane finished and fit right in with the client’s new work space, their wood desk chairs upholstered in red leather and the tigerwood flooring.
